Islamabad March 13 (TNS): Resuming the suo motu hearing of the fake degrees’ case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Axact management to deposit the sum meant for payment of salaries of its employees.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that the fake degrees’ scandal case has tarnished the image of Pakistan internationally and everyone should work to protect and safeguard the dignity of the country.

The Axact CEO, Shoaib Sheikh has already been taken into custody by FIA Karachi on the charge of selling online diplomas and degrees of international universities against a huge sum.

A counsel for the PBA told the apex court Axact’s actual capital was Rs7 million but it has allocated Rs8 billion under the head of salaries annually and there seemed to be a huge difference between the capital and the expenditures. The chief justice said that the FBR could be engaged to trace the facts and audit the accounts of the Axact.

The PBA counsel said that the group has pumped millions of rupees illegally earned money in the media industry, however, the chief justice turned down a request by the Pakistan Broadcasting Association to become a party in the case.

The chief justice also inquired if the salaries of workers have been paid, and if not, the detail of the payment that has to be made, should also be submitted to the court.
