Alleged rapists sent on judicial remand in arms possession case

KARACHI Mar 17 (TNS): Four suspects, who were allegedly involved in raping young girls in Karachi, were sent on a judicial remand until March 28 in the illegal weapons possession case.

The four alleged rapists were arrested by the police from the Samanabad area and the police had registered a weapons possession case against them after the victim girls did not show up to lodge cases.

The police said they had announced that the victims and their families’ identities would be kept confidential if they volunteered to lodge cases against the alleged, as state cannot become a complainant in such cases, none of the victims showed up.

Sources said that police officers have been consulting the legal team to find a way to register a sexual assault case against the suspects, if the victims fail to show up.

DIG West Amir Farooqi said earlier that police have also recovered videos containing obscene material. He said that the gang members would lure young girls by making false promises of marriage and employment before gang raping them at a farmhouse.

The suspects had been identified as Daniyal Ahmed, Afaq Ahmed, Asad Niazi and Ghufran Mirza.

Earlier, the police had recovered an SMG rifle and three pistols from the suspects.
