Islamabad March 21 (TNS): Fugitive police officer Rao Anwar on Wednesday suddenly appeared before a Supreme Court bench hearing the suo moto case of Naqeebullah murder case.

The all of a sudden appearance of the absconding police officer took all by surprise. The fugitive police officer wearing a mask came out a white vehicle while a large number of police officials were present on the court premises.

During the hearing, the apex court bench had halted the proceedings, deferring the hearing but he suddenly appeared before the court.

Earlier, Sindh Police Inspector General AD Khawaja told the Supreme Court bench that fugitive police officer Rao Anwar was provided a boarding pass of a private jet and he may have escaped the country.

The statement prompted the chief justice, who is hearing the suo moto case of the killing of Naqeebullah Mehsood in a fake police encounter in Karachi, to remark that those who were facilitating Anwar will not be spared.

After he appeared before the court, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar asked him where was he hiding as he touted himself to be a valiant police officer. When Rao Anwar said that he has surrendered himself to the court, the chief justice told him that he was not doing any favour to the court and instead he was a fugitive.

The chief justice asked him why did he not surrender and why he eluded the court appearance for two months.

The fugitive police officer could not say anything.

The chief ordered to take him into custody while disposing of the contempt court case against him.

The court refused to give in protective bail while ordered to unfreeze his bank accounts.

The Supreme Court also said that a new JIT would be formed to probe the Naqeebullah murder case. The court rejected all objections raised by Rao Anwar against the previous JIT. The JIT will be headed by Sindh AIG Aftab Pathan.

After the court issued his arrest orders, the police chained him on the court premises.
