Lahore March 24 (TNS): While federal and Punjab governments continue to boast of adding extra megawatts of electricity to the national grid, several power plants in Punjab produce below capacity electricity but continue to charge consumers under the head of “capacity charges, “interest on loans and “operation and management charges”.

Several power plants in the Punjab province produce below 30 percent of electricity or some of them produce zero electricity the government and consumers continue to pay capacity charges to power generation companies to offset their capital and operation management cost.

The crippled transmission lines are another hiccup that continues to take a toll on the overall generation and the produced electricity end up wasting.
