ISLAMABAD March 26 (TNS): The Supreme Court on Monday issued directives to the federal government to issue notices through newspapers to those government servants who have concealed their dual nationality but continue to work on important posts and draw huge salaries and other perks and privileges.
When a three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar resumed hearing in the dual nationality case of government servants, the Federal Investigation Agency Director-General Bashir Memon told the court that 616 officials hold dual nationality, 691 servants’ wives hold foreign passports, 147 officers did not disclose their nationality while 291 conceal of their spouses’ nationality.
Upon this, the chief justice asked the federal government to issue notices to the officials who have concealed their or their wives’ nationality and the notices should be issued in leading newspapers.
Chief Justice Nisar asked the attorney general to inform the court about the dual nationality issue whether a dual national can become a government servant.
The FIA chief and the Establishment Division secretary told the court that dual nationals cannot be inducted into government jobs, however, they can be hired for project works.
The court ordering the FIA chief to compile a detailed report on the dual nationality of the officials put off hearing for two weeks.
The FIA chief told the apex court that of 172,000 federal government employees, information has been verified against 144,848 while provinces were yet to share information about the government servants.
