Islamabad March 28 (TNS):  The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the federal government to arrest and bring back former ambassador Hussain Haqqani in one-month so that he could be harangued in the memo scandal.

The Memogate scandal involves an alleged memo from former ambassador Husain Haqqani to former US army chief Admiral Mike Mullen informing him that the army was planning to stage a coup against the then PPP government.

At the start of the hearing on Wednesday, the chief justice heading a three-member bench inquired from the FIA director-general what progress has been made to bring Haqqani back.

The chief minister made it clear that no laxity will be tolerated in this regard,

The chief justice while taking exception to media talks on the sub-judice matter hinted that an order could be passed to stop discussion on such matters in the media.

The chief justice said that Haqqani was not returning to the country despite giving a written statement. The FIA chief assured the court that the former envoy will be brought through Interpol. The Supreme Court bench gave one-month time to the government to bring Haqqani back and adjourned the case for one month.
