Karachi March 29 (TNS): An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Thursday remanded former SSP Rao Anwar into police custody till April 21 for filing a fake case against the late Naqeebullah Mehsood, which led to the encounter.

Anwar was produced before the court in tight security and the investigation officer sought the physical remand of the former police officer.

Anwar, who was also grilled by the joint investigation team separately, claimed that he was not present at the site when the encounter took place that led to the death of the tribal youth.

Earlier, the anti-terrorism court remanded Rao Anwar to police custody for one month in the alleged killing of Mehsood in a fake encounter in Karachi in January.

Anwar made a dramatic appearance and surrendered to Supreme Court on March 21 after hiding from authorities for weeks after a case was registered against him.
