Islamabad April 7 (TNS): An aircraft of the Pakistan International Airport made the first trial landing at the new Islamabad airport at 1:30 pm on Saturday.

The trial landing was made with a half-an-hour delay as the plane was supposed to touch the runway exactly at 1 pm but it was delayed for 30 minutes.

The flight PK 9001 took off from the Benazir International Airport and landed at the new Islamabad airport successfully at 1.30 pm to the jubilation of the aviation and the PIA authorities, who also arranged a small ceremony to mark the day.

The trial will help the government and the aviation authorities to assess and decide on the regular operations of flights at the new airport.

The new airport is expected to start regular operations from April 20. The construction work on the airport is almost done and the aviation authorities said that they want to ensure that everything is immaculately in place before the actual operations begin.

The mega project was hit by delays and cost escalation but the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz took it as a top priority and consistently worked on the new state-of-the-art airport, which has cost over Rs70 billions.
