Manchester City clinch League title, as United suffer unexpected defeat

Manchester, April 16 (TNS): Manchester City bagged their 4th league title since 1968 as their neighbours and arch-rivals Manchester United suffered an astonishing defeat to West Brom at home, a side who sit rock bottom in the English Premier League table.

Manchester City who were 16 points adrift to United in the league just needed West Brom to take a point from their arch-rivals at Old Trafford.

The Baggies who had not won an away game since August produced a stunning performance against United and after a compact first half, they managed to break the dead-lock courtesy Jay Rodriguez in the second half.

Manchester United manager Mourinho congratulated Guardiola’s men “I have won titles. City were the best team, sooner or later they would get the points, so no dramas when the best team wins the league,”

Jubilated City defender Kyle Walker said. “We did it! All the lads have done so well and it feels great to be part of this really special group of players,” City defender Kyle Walker said.

Sergio Aguero, who became City´s record goal-scorer this season, added: “Ecstatic about clinching another title with this great team, and with all the support of our fans. Let´s celebrate!”

City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, a candidate for Player of the Year, said: “Unbelievable season for us. Very happy to call us champions this year!”

City Manager Pep Guardiola became the first manager from Spain to win the Premier League, that also in joint record time as City clinched the title with five games to go only their rivals Manchester United have won it the earliest in the 2000-01 season.
