ISLAMABAD, May 10 (TNS): The Supreme Court Tuesday directed the Inspector Generals of the Frontier Corps’ south and north divisions to appear before it in Quetta today on May 10 in a sou moto notice case pertaining to the Balochistan province.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar issued the directives while hearing the suo moto case. Former chief ministers of the province Abdul Malik Baloch and Sanaullah Zehri appeared in the court in compliance with the court orders.

During the course of proceedings, the chief justice observed that those who were responsible for the poor state of affairs in Balochistan would not be spared. When the court highlighted the poor state of schools in the province, Baloch said Rs 62 billion was required to build new schools whereas the province’s total budget was of Rs 42 billion.

The chief justice observed Baloch had told nothing new as everyone complained of lack of funds. Some 6,054 schools in the province did not have boundary walls and toilets.

Same was the case in the health sector as he himself had witnessed very poor conditions at government hospitals in the province, he added.

The CJP then asked Abdul Malik Baloch about the steps taken by him as chief minister for supply of clean water, education and health. Baloch replied that after assuming power in 2013, the government had resolved to improve the law and order situation in the province, which was the worst at that time.

Sanallah Zehri informed the court that the security situation in the province improved during his tenure as it was his first priority. The chief justice, however, observed that the people would be forced to migrate from the province if the state of affairs was not improved.

What the court could do to improve the situation, he asked. Baloch replied that those, who did not work for the province, should be punished. He used to work for 17 hours a day, he added. The chief justice observed that he worked an hour more than him (Baloch). The court then summoned the IGs to appear before it at Quetta regard today
