ISLAMABAD, May 10 (TNS): The Accountability Court (AC) of Islamabad Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a reference against former finance minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar about having assets beyond known sources of income, till May 16.
AC Judge Muhammad Bashir directed witness Muhammad Azeem to come up with the record related to the case on next date of hearing, wherein defence counsel Qazi Misbah would continue his cross-examination.
The reference against Ishaq Dar was filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment in the Panama Papers case.
During the cross-examination, Muhammad Azeem informed the court that the NAB investigation officer had sought details of bank accounts transactions verbally rather than in writing.
The NAB officer had written two letters to him and their copies had been submitted to the court, he added. The witness stated that an amount of Rs 489,100 was transferred into the Bank Alflah account of former finance minister on November 6, 2003.
He, however, said he did not know that the amount was deposited by Akther Haneef. He said another amount of Rs 300,000 was transferred into that account on May 3. In response of a question regarding shifting of Rs 300,000 to the Hajvery Trust’s bank account, Azeem said he only knew that Rs 300,000 was withdrawn from the bank account of former finance minister on December 30.
The court later adjourned the case till May 16, and directed the NAB witness to appear with documents related to the reference.
