Olympian Goalkeeper, Mansoor Ahmed passes away aged 49

Karachi May 12 (TNS): Ailing Hero Mansoor Ahmed died in Karachi after a prolonged illness, he was under treatment at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, a Hospital in Karachi, and was suffering from a heart disease for the past three years.

The 1994 world cup hero was waiting for an Indian Visa, so he can travel to the neighbouring country for treatment, however, the Olympian goalkeeper was brought to the hospital on Wednesday and was on Ventilator since morning.

Earlier the Olympic medal winner had said that he was not comfortable with treatment in Pakistan, as the facilities were not good enough and he had reservations regarding the surgery.

Ahmed’s surgeon Nadeem Qamar, however, said that they can operate the patient whenever he likes but if he is not comfortable here then he should reach out to the Indian government for Visa.

One of the world’s best field hockey keepers died at the age of 49, in his 338 appearances for Pakistan, he won a bronze medal in 1992 Olympics, silver medal in 1990 hockey world cup and gold in world cup ’94.

He bagged 12 gold medals, 12 silver and 8 bronze medals in international hockey for the green shirts.
