8 dead, 45 injured in blasts in a cricket stadium in Afghanistan

Kabul May 19 (TNS): At least eight people were killed while 45 others were injured following three back to back explosions at a cricket stadium in Jalalabad City, in the eastern Nangarhar province, local officials confirmed.

The explosions happened when a big crowd was watching a cricket match at a local stadium in the city, provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani, TOLO news quoted, adding that the match was part of a cricket tournament held between local teams to mark Ramadan.

Hedayatullah Zahir, an organizer of the cricket tournament, and Dr Nikmal, deputy mayor of Mehtarlam City of Laghman province, are among those killed in the blasts, provincial governor’s office said.

Taliban denies any involvement in the Jalalabad blasts while no other group has claimed the responsibility for the Jalalabad blasts.
