World Cup 2018: Russia takes on Saudi Arabia in Inaugural match

Moscow, June 14 (TNS): The world’s attention is on Moscow today as Russia and Saudi Arabia will go head on, in the opening match of the world’s biggest football event.

The hosts Russia have not won a game at the world cup since 2002 and Saudi Arabia’s last win at the world cup finals came in 1994.

Russia are on the back of an unfortunate winless streak as they have not tasted victory in their last 7 friendly international matches.

Saudi Arabia have also lost 3 games on the spin although against tougher opponents like Italy, Peru and World Champions Germany.

Since the World Cup of 1978 every opening game has produced a goal before this almost all inaugural matches of the world cup were goal less.

Two big names from the entertainment world will feature in the opening ceremony, which includes Robbie Williams Will Smith and Russian Popstar Aida Garifullina. Brazillian Legend Ronaldo will also be one of the chief guests.

The match will kick off at 8.00pm Pakistan time.
