KARACHI, July 23 (TNS): Kalakot Police on Monday claimed to
have arrested a Lyari’s gangster, Shakeel Ahmed alias Shakoor
Kara, and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
Addressing a press conference at the office of SDPO Kalakot,
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) City Dr. Samiullah Soomro
said the police, on a tip off, conducted a raid in Mill area late
Sunday night where the arrested gangster and his accomplices were
allegedly planning for some terror attack during the general
election.
The gangsters, Shakeel Ahmed, and his accomplices opened
fire on police party led by Deputy Superintendent of Police
(DSP) Kalakot and including Station House Officers of Police
Stations Kalakot and Chakiwara.
After exchange of fire, the police team successfully
arrested the leader of the gang, Shakeel Ahmed alias Shakoor
Kara, while his three accomplices Arif, Qadir and Shoaib managed
to escape from the scene, the SSP said.
He said the arrested accused was involved in over 20 target
killings, cases of which were registered against him in different
police stations. The accused was the member of Gaffar Zikri
Group. Police also recovered an SMG, one G3, one 222 rifle, one
MP5, one 9mm pistol, a hand grenade, an Awan bomb and 500 rounds
during the raid.
Dr. Samiullah said the raids were being conducted for the arrest
of his absconding accomplices.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Lyari division Iftikhar Lodhi was
also present at the press conference.
