Islamabad July 10 (TNS): The three-member Panama Papers implementation bench on Monday issued notices to Jang Group Chief Executive Officer and owner Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and The News reporter Ahmed Noorani for churning out ‘misleading and concocted news stories’ regarding the Joint Investigation Team proceedings.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal expressed its resentment over the biased and misleading reporting of the Jang Group, The News and their reporters, and sought replies from Mir Shakil and Ahmed Noorani within one week.
The apex court also summoned The News reporter Sohail Khan to the rostrum and grilled him for ‘false’ reporting.
The court wondered how a press reporter can contact a judge to seek his comment for a piece of a news story. Justice Afzal while referring to Ahmed Noorani remarked that the person who ran the story about the JIT probe has gone into hiding.
The Supreme Court while assigning the Attorney General as a prosecutor in the case observed that why contempt proceedings should not be started against the Jang Group chief and its reporter for the biased and concocted reporting.
The Supreme Court also said that the JIT probe was not being monitored by the ISI, or it was assigned to oversee the JIT proceedings.
