Islamabad July 10 (TNS): The Supreme Court on Monday ordered to make public the report of the Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) in the Panama Papers case involving the Sharif family.
When the three-member Panama Papers’ implementation bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal resumed hearing in the high-profile case involving the Sharif family, the JIT chief Wajid Zia furnished the findings of the probe team in two sealed boxes. The findings containing 10 volumes were presented to the packed court in the presence of the petitioners and political leaders from both sides of the aisle.
After the JIT chief confided to the bench that except for the 10th volume of the probe team report, the rest can be shared with the parties, the apex court said that the parties may get the report from the Supreme Court Registrar.
“Copies of the JIT report should be issued to all parties and also a copy of the report should also be given to the Attorney General of Pakistan,” the bench said in its order.
At the same time, the bench made it clear that if anyone tried to browbeat or bully the JIT members, they may knock the Supreme Court’s door and stern action will be taken against the tormentors, whosoever he or she may be.
“If someone has any issue with the JIT report, they should take up it with the Supreme Court,” the bench said.
“All the JIT members have complete freedom to return to their respective departments and carry out their responsibilities,” the apex court said.
The Panama Papers case was postponed till July 17.
