Work on nine special economic zones under CPEC to be kicked off soon

Islamabad, July 23 (TNS): Under umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistani authorities and their Chinese counterparts have completed feasibility studies of nine special economic zones to be established across the country, state media reported on Sunday.

State-run Radio Pakistan quoting officials said that these special economic zones to be set up in four provinces,FATA, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

The reports suggested that Pakistan and Chinese sides are presently evaluating the feasibility studies prepared by both countries.

The report quoting officials further stated that the proposed economic zones will boost commercial activities and generate lakhs of employment opportunities in the country and youth of Pakistan would be real beneficial of these projects.

The officials said that among others, one zone would be setup in KP’s Rashakai area and this special zone under CPEC would generate around 500,000 direct and indirect employments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

KP officials say that an agreement for the formation of economic zone at Rashakai has already been inked with Beijing and the zone will be made operational by the end of this year.
