London, July 23 (TNS): In an excited match, England beat India by nine runs to lift trophy of the Women’s World Cup here on Sunday.

England set a target of 229 runs but India lost their last wicket in the second last over with nine runs remaining.

Punam Raut scored most 86 runs off 115 balls for India.

English player Anya Shrubsole played key role in epic victory by bagging six wickets.

In first innings, the hosts were helped by Natalie Sciver 51 runs and Sarah Taylor 45 runs as they scored 288-7 in their 50 overs.
