ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), describing the bond between the two nations as rooted in faith, trust, and mutual respect.

The president made these remarks while addressing a reception held to mark the UAE’s 53rd National Day, Eid Al-Etihad. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Alzaabi, members of the diplomatic corps, and senior government officials attended the ceremony.

President Zardari emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and the UAE in key sectors, including information technology, renewable energy, agriculture, and tourism. He extended an invitation to UAE businesses to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s economy, particularly in sectors like the Pakistan Stock Exchange, renewable energy, and other promising fields, noting the country’s investment-friendly environment.

Highlighting the strategic partnership between the two nations, the president underscored the flourishing ties across political, economic, and social dimensions. “The UAE is one of Pakistan’s most significant economic partners and among the largest investors in the country,” he said.

Referring to recent developments, President Zardari pointed to the signing of multiple agreements in diverse areas such as maritime, logistics, and aviation, calling it a reflection of the UAE’s confidence in Pakistan’s economic potential. He expressed optimism for further deepening bilateral cooperation.

The president also highlighted the historic ties between Pakistan and the UAE, noting that Pakistan was the first country to establish diplomatic representation in the UAE, even before its formal unification. “This enduring relationship is built on mutual respect and trust,” he added.

President Zardari expressed gratitude for the UAE’s consistent support during Pakistan’s challenging times. He also commended the contributions of the 1.8 million-strong Pakistani diaspora in the UAE, recognizing their vital role in the development of both nations. “This people-to-people connection exemplifies the goodwill and mutual trust between our countries,” he stated.

Extending heartfelt congratulations to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the people of the UAE, the president praised the UAE’s remarkable progress since its unification. “The UAE has emerged as a global hub for trade, investment, and tourism,” he said, crediting the visionary leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for laying the foundation of the country’s success and its enduring friendship with Pakistan.

President Zardari concluded by applauding the UAE’s achievements in various fields and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to fostering stronger, mutually beneficial ties with the UAE.
