KARACHI, Aug. 12 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has announced to release Rs 25 billion grant on Saturday for Karachi during his visit to the metropolis.

While addressing the media in a joint press conference with Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair, PM Abbasi said that policies and commitments of former premier Nawaz Sharif would be fulfilled. He said that the responsibility of completing development projects lies with the provincial governments under 18th Amendment.

He reiterated that every possible step would be taken to curb trade losses and to boost exports.

The Prime Minister announced to issue funds worth Rs 25 billion for Karachi and Rs 5 billion for the Hyderabad. He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is a political party and the issues faced by the organisation would be addressed.

While talking about Nawaz Sharif’s ‘homecoming rally’, he said that he was returning to his residence and not protesting.

Chairing a meeting on law and order situation here at the Governor House, he also said the federal government was concerned over the recent surge in street crimes in Karachi, which could compromise the gains made through sustained efforts during last four years.

The prime minister stressed the need for activating all intelligence resources to arrest that alarming trend.

The meeting was briefed on overall security situation in the province in general and Karachi in particular. The meeting reaffirmed that peace and tranquility in Karachi would be maintained at all costs.

Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Interior Ahsan Iqbal, Corps Commander Karachi, Chief Secretary Sindh, DG Rangers Sindh, IG Sindh and other senior government officials were present during the meeting.
