RAWALPINDI, Aug 23 (TNS): Amid relentless criticism of Pakistan from the Trump administration, Chief of Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, has told the US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale during a meeting at the GHQ that Pakistan doesn’t need aid; all it wants is acknowledgement of its efforts in the fight against terrorism.
“More than financial or material assistance, we seek acknowledgement of our decades-long contributions towards regional peace and stability, understanding of our challenges and most importantly the sacrifices Pakistani nation and its security forces have rendered in the fight against terrorism and militancy,” he told David Hale, who called on him on Wednesday to brief COAS about the new US policy.
David Hale said the US values Pakistan’s role in combatting terrorism and seeks its cooperation to resolve the Afghan issue.
In response, the COAS said that peace in Afghanistan is as important for Pakistan as for other country. Collaboration between all stakeholders is the key to success to bring this long drawn war to logical conclusion.
Gen Qamar reiterated his commitment to work in close coordination with all the stakeholders for improved security environment in the region.
