NA-120 bye-poll: RO orders to stop public gathering, political procession

ISLAMABAD, Sep 14 (TNS): The Returning Officer NA-120 Lahore-III on Thursday directed the Chief Secretary Punjab to stop holding of any public gathering or procession by any political party in the constituency.

According to an official of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the Returning Officer through a letter written to the Chief Secretary Punjab asked him to ensure the compliance of the code of conduct issued by the ECP in order to avoid any violation of constitutional or legal provisions.

He said that it has been noticed by the ECP that some political parties are going to arrange procession today in connection with bye-election.

He added under provision it was the duty of the executive authorities to assist the Chief Election Commissioner and the ECP in the discharge of his or their functions. He asked the chief secretary Punjab to immediately stop any such  public gathering or procession as under the code of conduct no political party is allowed to arrange any such activity now.
