LAHORE Nov 17 (TNS): Remaining steadfast to his ideal of good governance, CM Shehbaz Sharif immediately taking notice of maltreatment of some deaf and dumb children at Sambrial, ordered Punjab police inspector general to depute two unarmed police personnel each on buses of all special education institutes transporting the students.

Boys and girls were subjected to assault in the bus carrying students of Daska Special Education Centre. The bus conductors — Muzammil and Mazhar — pulled students’ hair and used abusive language against them. The special children got frightened due to the inhuman treatment and its video also went viral on social media.

A report was sought from the Punjab home secretary and the IGP on the incident and deputy commissioner and district police officer of Sialkot were also summoned to explain.

The DPO was ordered to examine the video footage of the incident and take appropriate action against the bus staff and submit a separate report to this effect.

According to the FIR lodged at Sambrial police station, the conductors subjected the students to brutal torture while they were traveling to the institute by the school bus.

After footage of the incident went viral on social media, special education secretary was ordered by Shehbaz Sharif to suspend institute in charge Ms Riffat Jamil for concealing the incident.

The police arrested both the suspects and sent them behind the bars after registering a case.

Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Dr Farrukh Naveed was also ordered to start a departmental probe into the incident, and he appointed Additional Deputy Commissioner General Meesam Abbas as inquiry officer.

The Chief Minister also took notice of torture of special children in Punjab after more such videos emerged, showing staffers manhandling children in Sialkot.

The videos that emerged showed a bus conductor forcing a girl to sit on the seat for two persons, and later slapping her.

According to Sambrial assistant commissioner, the bus in which the conductor was seen torturing children belongs to Government Special Education School Sambrial, Sialkot. The school bus is run on Daska-Sambrial route.

The conductor seen in the footage has been arrested and a case lodged against him. The CM ordered higher authorities to suspend the school principal and driver of the said bus, and also ordered an inquiry.

Earlier, two different video clips of torture of special children of a government-run institute in Lahore have surfaced in which bus conductors were seen torturing children of Gung Mahal School for the Deaf & Dumb, a government institute in Gulberg.

The videos had drawn public ire prompting Punjab government to arrest the staffers.

One of the clips, which surfaced, showed a school staffer arguing with and torturing a child.

The other clip showed a staffer scolding a girl. He is seen picking the girl up and forcing her to sit on a seat in the school bus.

The staffer, in the footage, is later witnessed slapping the schoolgirl for leaving the seat.
