Sindh Gov’t approves extension of Rangers’ Powers for 90 days

KARACHI, Jan 09 (TNS): The Sindh government on Tuesday approved an extension in the special powers of the Pakistan Rangers for 90 days in the city.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah signed the summary extension of 90 days in the special powers of the paramilitary force, said a statement issued by his office.The special powers of the Rangers will have to be ended on January 10.

The summary for extension in Rangers power was sent by Interior ministry.

In a statement issued by the CM House, Shah said he hoped the Rangers would continue to work for peace in Sindh with the same commitment.The CM, applauding Rangers effort in Karachi to maintain peace, said that Rangers will continue to exercise the same powers as it had been in the past in Karachi.

On October 11, 2017, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah extended special policing powers granted to the Rangers for 90 days within Karachi.

The CM approved a summary extending the powers granted to the paramilitary force under Section 4(2) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 within Karachi division for 90 days. The summary will be forwarded to the federal government for approval.
