Blasphemous Content: Justice Siddiqui conducts  hearing

ISLAMABAD  Feb 16 (TNS):  Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui has conducted  the hearing of case pertaining to blasphemous content on social media websites at the Islamabad High Court.

During the hearing the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Ministry of Interior and Law has submitted their reports.

The Deputy Attorney General appeared before the court and said the on the direction of court the electronic crime bill is amended. He also presented the draft of amendment blasphemous law in the court. According to the draft the same punishment for any person misusing it or falsely accusing someone of blasphemy.

Director General PTA has said that on the direction of court at least 23558 websites have been blocked which contain blasphemous content.  The PEMRA counselor has said that several complaints of TV channels morning shows are under consideration in council. Justice Siddiqui remarked that steps should be taken up to ensure that no one misuses blasphemy law and media should give credit to courts for good work instead of criticize. The hearing adjourned for three weeks.
