Pakistan land of Sufis, not terrorists: PM

Islamabad, Feb 24 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that Pakistan is a land of Sufis and not terrorisists.

Addressing an event in connection with the Lahore Literary Festival on Saturday, he said that there was no room for extremism in it. Paying rich tribute to the late rights champion and senior lawyer Asma Jehangir, the prime minister said that she fought the war of democracy and rendered valuable services for the cause of independent judiciary and human rights.

He termed two-day literary festival a good omen and expressed the hope that such events will help promote tolerance and harmony in the society and curb tendencies of extremism and intolerance.

Meanwhile, PM Abbasi and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif held a meeting in Lahore and matters of mutual interest, political situation in the country and party matters came under discussion.

The Punjab chief minister said Pakistan cannot afford internal confrontation and “we all have to work for the public welfare and national development”. He said that the supremacy of law and the Constitution would have to be ensured to move forward.
