Chief justice complains about being bitten by mosquitoes in Karachi

Karachi March 17 (TNS): During the hearing of a case regarding the water supply and drainage system in the province, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday complained that the situation has become dire and he himself was witness to that fact that he could not sleep at his Bath Island lodging after he was continuously bitten by buzzing mosquitoes, and he killed a large number of blood-sucking vampires.

The chief justice expressing his anger over the sorry state of the affairs directed the local authorities including Karachi Major Waseem Akhtar to clean up the metropolitan of garbage and submit a compliance report.

During the hearing, the Sindh chief secretary confessed that the trash had not been removed in some places for the last six months. He, however, claimed that the situation was improving now. The chief justice said that come what may, clean up the city streets and roads as drains have clogged and roads are strewn with garbage. Pointing to Waseem Akhtar, the top judge said it was his duty to get the city cleared of garbage and trash. The Karachi major, however, replied that he had no funds and powers and the Singh government was responsible for carrying out the cleanliness work through the district municipal corporations.

Sindh Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon told the court that the city road and streets were reeling under the burden 4.6 tons of garbage.

The chief justice said that a drive should also be launched to create awareness among the masses about disposing of trash properly and designated places. The Karachi mayor assured the court that the trashed would be removed within 10 days despite that fact that all revenue from the local taxes were possessed by the Sindh government.
