Rooting out corruption collective responsibility: NAB chief

LAHORE March 19 (TNS): National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has said that eradication of corruption was not the sole responsibility of the ant-graft body but rather it was a collective responsibility.

Addressing an event in Lahore on Monday, the anti-graft body chief said that his organization was working to rid the country of corruption by employing stick and carrot policy.

He said that Pakistan has badly suffered at the hands of the corrupt, who plunder the national wealth like a termite. He said that the bureau was endeavouring to stop corruption in development funds and it never became a hurdle in the development of the country.

The NAB chief urged the officials to pursue cases purely on merit without bowing to pressure or blackmailing from any quarter.

He said that several corruption cases have been reopened against sitting ministers and members of opposition parties.
