LAHORE, July 14(TNS): The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday said that trials of terrorists are carried out in jails, he was referring to the sentences given to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in Avenfield Reference case.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, the former CM Punjab criticized the way of the caretaker government by which they arrested the former supremo Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Safdar.

The PML-N president said, “I have heard Nawaz and Maryam’s trial will be held in Adiala jail, this is equivalent to disgracing sanctity of justice,”

Shahbaz said that in 1999 when former military ruler Pervez Musharraf had made a plane hijacking case against Nawaz, even then the trial was not held in jail.

He said that taking a legal discourse, the PML-N will defend its leader and his daughter.

Shehbaz called for a peaceful protest in the country, “Workers will protest wearing black armbands,” he added.

While referring to the father-daughter duo’s arrival on Friday, Shahbaz said that the people came out to welcome their leader Nawaz out of their own accord, adding that the leadership ‘had promised a peaceful rally’.

“Police used tear gas and baton-charged our workers in the rally,” said Shehbaz.

The PML-N leader added that the Election Commission of Pakistan ECP should stop those who are trying to malign the upcoming general elections on July 25 and should take steps for transparent polls.

He further said that the mandate of the people should not be hindered through rigging.

He said that cases were registered against him and the senior leadership of the party, adding that the clauses pertaining to ‘terrorism’ were also included in the petition.
