SC grants overseas Pakistanis voting rights in Bi-elections

Islamabad, August 17 (TNS): Supreme Court on Thursday has granted permission to  overseas Pakistanis for casting their vote in the upcoming bi-elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has directed National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to include the names of all overseas Pakistanis in voters list for the bi-elections.

During the hearing, pertaining to inclusion of overseas voters in the bi-elections the Supreme Court has announced its verdict to allow overseas Pakistanis to exercise their right to vote.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar felicitated the Overseas Pakistanis and remarked that the right to vote for overseas Pakistanis has been permitted, now the process of implementation is the responsibility of the election commission.

He appreciated the efforts of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and NADRA, and directed that the Pilot Project should now be completed under the rules and regulations of ECP.

The Chief Justice further directed that the reult of E-voting results should be merged in the results of Local Bi election results and in the case of dispute and controversy, the results of the E-voting (Online voting) should be distinguished from local results.
