Tehran, Jan 6 (TNS): PTI leader and a member of Punjab Provincial Assembly says that the US is no longer a reliable ally for Pakistan and the country has to review its foreign policy as far as its ties with the US are concerned.
In an interview with Iranian state-run news agency IRNA, Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that actually the US wants to make Pakistan scapegoat of its failure in Afghanistan by putting blames on its shoulders.
“The situation is getting worse as far as the ties between Pakistan and US are concerned; Americans are using a very harsh and aggressive tone towards Pakistan; they have also cut military aid to Pakistan, and they are also threatening Pakistan,” he said.
The politician expressing his views said American attitude has forced Pakistan to review its ties with the United States.

“We are an independent nation and will follow an independent foreign policy,” he noted.
Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed said, ‘We need to further strengthen our ties with the regional states so that we can respond any kind of American pressure in a befitting manner and defend our rights.
“We are ready to face all kinds of consequences but we won’t bow down to American pressure,” he added.
He said that all political parties in Pakistan are united against the American pressure. “We have no other option but to develop strong ties with Iran, Russia and China, the US is not a trustworthy ally,” said the lawmaker.
The parliamentarian added that US has badly failed in Afghanistan and is just trying to make Pakistan a scapegoat for its failures in the country. “For many years, they are in Afghanistan with full force but still Taliban are controlling major parts of the country,” he noted.
The US President Donald Trump had tweeted that his country made an unwise decision to provide over $33 billion aid to Pakistan in the last 15 years.
In his tweet, Trump had accused Pakistan of giving nothing in return except lies and deceit by taking the US for a fool, saying, “They give safe havens to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”
Pakistan civilian and military chiefs rejected the US comments and summoned US Ambassador David Hale to explain Trump’s tweet.
