Jodhpur April 7 (TNS): Indian superstar actor Salman Khan was granted bail in the blackbuck poaching case on Saturday by the Jodhpur sessions court.
The Indian actor was convicted of hunting two blackbucks in 1998 and he was sentenced to jail for five years on Thursday.
The Bishnoi community, which is against hunting and consumption of animals’ meat, announced to file a plea against the bail granted to Khan. Four other Bollywood stars — Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari — were also accused of joining the hunting trip but were acquitted for lack of evidence.
The 52-year-old has been dogged by multiple charges since undertaking the infamous hunting safari in protected forest land while shooting a film in Rajasthan.
The Bishnois, a Rajasthani tribe seen as custodians of the region’s wildlife, had filed a complaint against the actors.
