ISLAMABAD June 16, (TNS): Islamabad High Court on Friday expressed its anger over non-recovery of a missing aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari.
A single member bench of IHC headed by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard a petition for recovery of Nawab Leghari, missing aide of Asif Zardari.
Nawab Ali Leghari had gone ‘missing’ from the capital on April 4 after some people, who identified themselves as ‘government officials’ visited his house. Leghari’s wife – the petitioner in the case – claimed that Leghari and his cousin were asked to produce their computerized national identity cards (CNICs).
Subsequently, she said, the officials allegedly picked Leghari up and threw him inside their vehicle and took him away. She had alleged that her husband may be illegally confined by the interior secretary.
Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi, the petitioner’s counsel, had contended before the bench that people belonging to only one political party were being “kidnapped”.
Expressing his anger over non-recovery of Legahri, the judge remarked that if Leghari was involved in any incident of terrorism then he should be proceeded against.
“If he has been cleared in investigation, he should be released and should not be kept in illegal confinement,” the judge remarked.
Interior Ministry submitted reply in the court stating that Leghari was not in custody of any agency or institution under administrative control of the ministry.
Director Legal , Defence Ministry took the plea that Leghari was not in custody of ISI. He added that the response of Military Intelligence was awaited.
He pleaded the court not to pass any order before the submission of MI reply in the matter. The court while giving time to MI and IB to file response adjourned further hearing till July 12.
