MQM withdraws its candidate in favor of Khaqan Abbasi


ISLAMABAD, August 01 (TNS): An hour before the scheduled National Assembly session to elect a prime minister, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced to withdraw its candidate for the post of prime minister in favour of the PML-N nominee Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

A meeting was held between leaders of both the parties’ hours before today’s election in the National Assembly. MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar announced the party’s decision in a joint press conference after a meeting with PML-N leaders in the federal capital.

MQM’s Sattar and Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar held the meeting with PML-N’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Saad Rafique and Abdul Qadir Baloch.
