Nehal Hashmi to be indicted on June 5

Islamabad June 1 (TNS): The Supreme Court, which had summoned PML-N leader and Senator Nehal Hashmi over his fiery speech in which he could be heard threatening investigators for grilling the prime minister’s son, on Thursday directed Hashmi to submit his reply within three days.

The Supreme Court’s three-member bench headed by Ejaz Afzal also appointed AGP as the prosecutor to start contempt of court proceedings against Senator Hashmi, who will be indicted on June 5.

During the hearing of the suo motu case, Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that “in your government, we are being threatened, but we are unscarred from the day first. We are humans and not angels.”

“Terrorist mafias hurl such threats. Congratulations to you for becoming part of that mafia,” Justice Afzal said.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed remarked: “Your government is threatening us.

Earlier, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice of Nehal Hashmi’s speech and constituted the three-member bench.

Hashmi’s basic membership of the party has been suspended by the prime minister after his speech went viral on the social media and relayed by electronic media.

Nehal Hashmi has also been asked by the prime minister to tender resignation from the Senator slot as its member.

On Wednesday, the prime minister had summoned Hashmi to the Prime Minister’s Office, where he was also asked to step down from Senate as a member. According to reports, Nehal Hashmi could not meet the prime minister in person, however, PML-N spokesperson Asif Kirmani reportedly conveyed the prime minister’s message to him, asking him to immediately resign from senatorship.
