Islamabad June 07 (TNS): Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani accepted a request of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Nehal Hashmi, who had pleaded not to aaccept his resignation letter, which, he said, was sent to him (Rabbai) in haste and under duress.
On Tuesday, Hashmi, who had sent his resignation to the Senate chairman after he was asked by the party leadership over his controversial statement against investigators grilling prime minister’s son, in a dramatic U-turn on Tuesday requested Rabbani not to accept his resignation.
On Tuesday morning, Hashmi met with the Senate chairman and impressed upon him that the resignation from him was taken under duress and his resignation should not be accepted.
Rabbani while giving a ruling on the resignation letter said that he accepted Hashmi’s request for not accepting his resignation after a face-to-face meeting with him. Rabbani said that during the meeting he made sure whether or not the resignation was sent to him by Hashmi with his own free will. However, during the meeting, Hashmi clarified that the resignation was taken from him under pressure. Hence the resignation stands nulled and void, the Senate chairman ruled.
