Brazil July 7 (TNS): A Brazilian judge has closed a case against Justin Bieber after he paid a fine for spraying graffiti on the wall of a hotel in 2013.
The star transferred $6,000 (£4,626) to a cancer hospital in Rio de Janeiro.
During a stay in the Brazilian city four years ago, the singer tagged the wall of the abandoned Hotel Nacional.
He had permission to paint at a sports facility nearby, but he chose a different location for “security reasons” and to avoid fans.
Police argued the consent didn’t extend to anywhere else.
Pictures published at the time showed the Canadian wearing a red cap and army-style camouflage trousers – with a security guard on one side and a police car parked on the other.
Defacing buildings is a crime in Brazil punishable by up to one year in jail or a fine.
In a statement released at the time, Brazil’s civil police force said Justin Bieber had been charged with “defacing a building or urban monument by graffiti or other means”.
On the same visit, the Canadian performer was photographed leaving a brothel under a blanket and he later tried to take women, who worked as prostitutes, into the Copacabana Palace.
After security guards turned the escorts away, it’s claimed he wrecked his hotel room causing $6,000 of damage.
