Islamabad June 06 (NTS): The combined opposition on Tuesday staged a walk out from the National Assembly after the government did not allow live telecast of opposition lawmakers on PTV.

The opposition walked out of the lower house after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentary leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi delivered a hard-hitting speech, saying that the government ministers have been rendered ‘powerless’ by their leadership.

He said that the government was not taking the business of the House seriously and it was making fun of the Parliament by exhibiting a non-serious attitude towards the proceedings. The opposition has continuously been staging walkouts from the National Assembly after the government refused the Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah and other opposition leaders to air their speeches on the federal budget live on the state-run television.

The government and the opposition have been at loggerhead over the live telecast issue, both pointing the finger at each other to scupper the house proceedings for a political mileage. The opposition had also staged a walk out from the Parliament when President Mamnoon Hussain addressed the joint sitting soon after the government presented the federal budget for the year 2017-18. The opposition has already rejected the federal budget terming it anti-people while the government claiming the budget to be historic and pro-people.

The government is supposed to pass the federal budget from both the Houses of the Parliament by June 6 before the start of the new financial year from July 1.
