Decrepit buildings to be demolished: SBCA

KARACHI JULY 19 (TNS): After a dilapidated building collapsing in Liaquatabad claimed six lives, decision has been taken to demolish the surrounding similar structures in order to avoid further losses.

Sindh Building Control Authority Demolition Deputy Director Sajjad Khan said residents have been issued notices and given time to vacate the three buildings as they are on the verge of collapsing.

The buildings will be brought down by laborers, manually, as it is difficult to take machines in the narrow streets of the area.

The SBCA official maintained the demolition of the buildings will take around six days and work will be done during the day.

The officials of SBCA visited the site Tuesday night, a day after the incident took place, declaring the surrounding buildings dangerous and issuing notices to the residents.

The enlisted buildings were declared unsuitable for use even before rain had hit the city, but hundreds of people continue to use them.
